Caroline Hastings-Brown is flying solo after many years with other marketing companies.

My Career

My recent move into business on my own is after many formative and enjoyable years working for other people in fantastic marketing companies.

I started out with a degree in Journalism from Rhodes University, with English and Psychology as my other majors. Beside my degree I have diplomas in computer suites, business management and copy editing and proof reading.

Moving off to London I got my first break into PR, working in the fashion, retail and IT fields. I then switched over to web writing, editing and publishing, and worked on British Telecomms and British Government web projects.

The call of home (South Africa) became loud and strong, so I moved back, got hitched to my husband, Jason, and we moved to the picturesque artist's town of Clarens, where we ran a family pub and restaurant and had our first son, Max.

Clarens was traded in for a bigger business hub in KZN. There I worked as events manager at Tsogo Sun's Suncoast Casino. After completion of that contract, I moved into advertising, first with a creative director's position at Plum Promotions (below the line agency), a marketing manager's position at Lee-Chem laboratories and then spending years at Ogilvy Durban. I also had my second son, James, so the family is now complete.

I have had the privilege of working on many great client businesses and under wonderful mentors. My biggest strengths are my copy work, my 'thinking' or strategy work and general love of people and breaking new boundaries, in order to create something special and magnificent.
